Studios

Chilliwack has a number of large facilities which can be used for filming, like the Canada Education Park and various large warehouses. Many production companies prefer this option as costs are considerably lower than standard filming studios. There are also some smaller private filming studios which can help fill your needs. BC Filming Facilities

BC is home to two of the largest film and television studio facilities in Canada, and one of the largest special effects stages in North America. There are also some large water tanks, broadcast facilities, production and post-production offices, and screening facilities. Most film and television studios are located in Vancouver, which is about a one hour commute from Chilliwack. Types of Equipment Available and Average Costs (BC)

Cameras and Accessories: Camera rentals are about $250 - $900 per day; lenses range from about $50 to $400.

Sound: Sound equipment rentals are usually the sound man's own package. The average rental rate for an equipment package is $1,700 - $2,000 per week, regardless of the type of project. This does not include radios/walkie talkies.

Light and Grip Equipment: Average daily rates for lighting ranges from about $170 to $1,250, depending on equipment selected.

Film Stock: Film ranges from about $0.40 to $0.75 per foot, depending on the type of film required.

Video: Video camera rentals range from $100 to $2,000 per day, depending on the type of camera. Lenses range from $75 to $650, depending on the type. Recorders range from $175 to $1,500. And Monitors range from $25 to $300. Airpacks are also available.

Video Tape Stock: Tape stock ranges from about $15 to $140, depending on the type necessary.

Office Equipment Rentals

Types of Office Equipment Available and Average Costs:

Furniture: The average cost of renting office furniture can range from $1,000 to $1,500 for an office of approximately 8 people. This includes desks, chairs, filing cabinets, machine stands, folding tables, bookcases, typewriters.

Computers: A wide variety of computers are available for rent. A typical PC (ie. Pentium) will rent for anywhere between $150 -$400 per month. Computer packages with printers, or software programming for networking or accessing the Internet are available from many sources.

Postage meters: Average cost between $50 -$75 per week depending upon the volume.

Fax machines: Rent for between $100 -$225 per month.

Photocopiers: Short term rentals are available, with a variety of capabilities. Rental rates are $200 -$300 per month plus copies. A flat rate of $0.35/copy is available with a minimum of 15,000 per month (which is the film industry average). This includes white paper, coloured, and 3-hole drill paper. Service & toner are included. Delivery and pick-up are extra.

Telephones: The approximate cost of installing a 20-line/ 20-set telephone system with intercom is $3,750. The approximate rental cost per month is $1,400 plus tax. The installation of a 20-line, 20-set telephone system is quite a large operation, therefore, please allow 2 - 3 weeks lead time when arranging for telephones.

Office space: The cost of renting unfurnished office space in downtown Vancouver averages about $15/sq.ft. However, in Chilliwack costs are quite a bit less. In fact the average cost of unfurnished office space is only $8/sq.ft.

Warehouse: The cost of renting warehouse space is about $5/sq.ft. per month. If you contact the Chilliwack Film Commission we can supply you with a list of what we currently have on file or give you a list of local suppliers.

Production Office: Fully equipped production offices are available for rent in close proximity to most studios, or on the studio site. Please check with studios for most current rates. Rates are averaging between $125 - $150 per day for a turn-key production office.
